I ate flowers at the Bohol Bee Farm

I haven't magically turned into a flower chomping goat. The floral feast was served to A. and myself at the Bohol Bee Farm. We went to their resto at the Island City Mall and the resort in Panglao island for some gustatory experience.

The flowers themselves don't really taste different from, well, flowers. The tangy dressing pretty much took over the palate. I just don't know if I could replicate the salad here in Manila using my neighbor's blooms.

Day Tour at Bohol Bee Farm : Bohol Tour, Day 3

Day Tour at Bohol Bee Farm: You have to coordinate with the Bee farm crew from the reception if you want a ‘Farm Tour’ of the area. When we got there, there was a large group of student touring the Bee Farm. They let us join that group which had already started when we got there.

The part of the tour we caught was the plants and herbs the crew grows inside the farm. We weren’t able to catch the tour guide’s name as we were late on the course of the tour.

Dinner at Bohol Bee Farm : Bohol Tour, Day 1

At the end of the day, Jeff and I were super tired and super hungry. Chocolate Hills was our last tourist spot of the day so we went back to Panglao Island from the town of Carmen to have dinner at Bohol Bee Farm.

The restaurant at Bee Farm is famous for it’s unique food and of course honey-filled dishes.

After picking a seat near the sink area, We were given the restaurant’s menu (above), which is a handicraft folder embroidered with the words ‘Bohol Bee Farm’, made by the Bee Farm’s crew.

Painitan

When I came home here in Tagbilaran City, Bohol I noticed Agora Square is habitable with new stalls and restaurants occupying the ground floor. I didn't bother to go over and scan the new place, thought it can wait for another day. The next day one friend took me over there for merienda at Jojie's Painitang Bol-anon. It's great. The place, cozy and comfy. The food is very good, just like grandma serving you the same merienda of puto maya and tsokolate. It made me miss my lola. Anyway, the best part is that it's pain-free on the wallets and pockets. You don't have to shell out 100php for snacks like you do in fast-food restaurants. Health wise, it's an A+. I've read that drinking or ingesting cocoa used in tsokolate is one prevention on heart disease.

Cafe Lawis in Dauis

In between a very hectic working day today in Tagbilaran city, we had a late afternoon snack in the town accross the island called Dauis.

I went home to Bohol for some legal work for the family corporation.

I took a side trip from Cebu as I was having hearings there.

Anyway it was the first time I visited another restaurant in Dauis called Cafe Lawis.

What a spectacle!

There was an unexpected view like no other.
Cafe Lawis is on the premises of the old Dauis church so nobody can miss it.
My hearing is that Bea Zobel developed the area to the tune of P7M---probably more.
The church was renovated.
Visibly changed was the roof of the church.
The restuarant is both indoor and outdoor.
It's an artist's lair obviously.
Outside, it was a breath taiking view of Tagbilran and the main Bohol island.

Dinner in Bohol

We arrived in Bohol nearly 2PM and after checking in at the Dumaluan Resort in Panglao Island, K and I rested first and late in the afternoon, we walked along the beach. One of the famous resorts in Panglao - the Bohol Beach Club - was just next to Dumaluan, so we went there, too, just to "see" how it was. While walking back to our resort, we saw this chef grilling some foods and automatically I told K that I wanted to eat chicken barbecue. K suggested we check out what Dumaluan has to offer.

It took a while before we ate dinner, and since the foods in Dumaluan was reasonable, we decided to eat there.

Prawn Farm Restaurant, Tagbilaran, Bohol

After morning of meetings with our lawyer in Tagbilaran, I asked him where we could eat a good lunch and he immediately said we should go to the Prawn Farm. My initial reaction was “wow, cool, I want to eat just above the fishponds”… and off we went. And then I realized that the restaurant “Prawn Farm” was located on the ground floor of the Island City Mall, the largest airconditioned structure in the city… But any apprehensions about a mall lunch were laid to rest when the dishes started arriving at the table…

Osang’s Pastries, Baclayon, Bohol

Osang’s is a home based business that is located behind or on the side of the Baclayon church in Bohol. I think they have been in the same spot for the last 40 years, though they may have moved once in that period. They used to hand mix all of their batters, the slow mixing motion a key to the consistency of their baked goods… but today they have a commercial looking mixer that they use on (and this is one of their secrets) very small batches of dough, using a maximum of only 6 eggs at a time! They can make up to 30 batches or so of dough on a given morning and only bake up until lunchtime, after which the goods are wrapped then picked up by those who previously placed orders. They don’t cook that much if there are no big orders, so visiting them unannounced can lead to a huge disappointment if they have nothing to sell you.

Tortas from Bohol

Posted by: Marketman

One of the incredible advantages of frequent flights by budget carriers such as Cebu Pacific to and from Tagbilaran is that oven fresh tortas such as these can be baked in the early morning and be savored in Manila for merienda that afternoon… Cebuano and Boholano tortas are cakes, not eggy and meaty omelettes. I have written about them before, and even posted this recipe, which is really a more modern version made with lots of butter, and which is bake-able almost anywhere in the world. The traditional tortas are often heavy with lard, denser and incredibly rich with lots of eggyolks. I was once told that tortas in a little town in Southern Cebu were preferably mae with lard from the previous year’s fiesta, hence AGED fat for additional flavor. Not too many folks still make these with the traditional recipes as they are practically goading one to keel over with coronary failure, but they are good.
