Boholanos join campaign to draft Aquino

The effort to put up Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as a presidential contender in 2010 continued to gain ground here with Boholanos now joining the signature campaign to convince him to do so.

The signature campaign is being spearheaded by members of various non-government organizations in Bohol.

“Noynoy is the only symbol of reform among the potential candidates in next year’s elections,” said engineer Vicente Loquellano, convener of the Nonoy for President campaign here.

Bea Zobel Jr., Ben Chan join hands for Bohol

Call it Divine Providence.

In a carinderia (eatery) in Baclayon, Bohol, philanthropist Beatriz Susana Zobel de Ayala Jr. was talking shop with diver-businessman Joel Uichico when her mobile phone rang.

Ben Chan, chairman of Suyen Corp., was calling to make a pledge after reading an article on her civic work in Bohol. He offered to donate part of the sales from Bench’s Green Tee, a line of T-shirts dedicated to environment causes, for the construction of the tourism information center on Baclayon’s wharf.

Overseas Boholanos on Medical Mission during TBTK 2009

The TBTK 2009 Schedule of Activities from July 14-26 is already prepared in earnest.

From the Boholano balikbayans’ appointed meeting with President Gloria M. Arroyo in Malacanang Palace in the nation’s capital of Manila on day one, to the subsequent social functions calendared in the days thereafter. Many of which are held in Tagbilaran City,Bohol, the venue site of most TBTK activities. So also in the neighboring municipalities as Baclayon, where an International Derby is to be held. Panglao, where the Boholano European community will present their DREAM show at the Panglao Island Resort and in Calape where the Miss Bohol International Beauty Pageant will take place in their 7,000 seat capacity Sports Center, respectively.

Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan (TBTK) 2009

Come July 16 to 26, the province of Bohol will again host Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan, a gathering of Boholanos from around the world, a continuing testament for our love for home and for going home.

The gathering will commence with an audience with the President at MalacaƱang on July 14 but will officially start in Bohol only on July 16. The ten-day program includes school reunions, pageants, a medical mission, a tree-planting activity, even an international cockfighting derby, and the famous Sandugo Festival.

Chocolate Hills of Bohol going strong on New 7 Wonders

Chocolate Hills of Bohol has going strong in the search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Few days ago Chocolate Hills was on the 5 position but things has change now because Bohol’s Chocolate Hills went to number 4 position. Followed by another Philippines nominee Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park which also went up from number 6 to 5.

Chocolate Hills of Bohol are probably one of the Philippines famous tourist attraction. It is composed of around 1,268 perfectly cone-shaped hills, all about the same size, spread over an area of more than 50 sq km. The hills are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, giving them the name ”Chocolate Hills.”

Chocolate Hills in the new 7 wonders of nature?

Last July 17, 2007, the New 7 Wonders of the World were announced during the Official Declaration in Lisbon, Portugal. The list included the Chichen Itza of Mexico, the Christ Redeemer of Brazil, the Colosseum of Italy, the Taj Mahal of India, the Great Wall of China, the Petra of Jordan, and the Machu Picchu of Peru.

Boholano priest is Vatican’s envoy to Haiti

Pope Benedict XVI has named another Filipino as apostolic nuncio or the Vatican’s ambassador to Haiti.

Monsignor Bernardito C. Auza, first counsellor of the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations in New York, was appointed apostolic nuncio of Haiti by the Pope on Thursday, according to a notice from Vatican read during Sunday masses at all churches here.

Bohol is Philippines' Model for Eco-Tourism

Eco-Cultural tourism was then an unthinkable word, until the Boholanos showed what it is.

Entirely packaging a tourism that is a spin-off from the traditional definitions, Bohol's eco-tourism has made it a model for the country, admits Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, during awarding ceremonies of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Turismo Mismo grantees in Magtangtang Danao, Bohol, May 1.

"Even at a time when eco-tourism was not crafted yet, the Boholanos were able to define it," he said after going through the Eco, Educational, Extreme Adventure Tourism (EAT) in Danao.

Bol-anon Top Notcher in Teachers Board Exam

Topping the 2008 national board exam for teachers was farthest from his mind. He did not even expect to pass.

"But I prayed so hard for Divine help and did the best that I could to pass the exam. So when I was informed that I landed in top 10, I could hardly believe it," Jessie Auxilio said.

Auxilio, a 2006-2007 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) graduate of BIT-Talibon landed 6th place in this year's successful board passers.

The Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) released the result last Thursday.

Chocolate Hills back in the race for New 7 Wonders of Nature

BOHOL’S famed Chocolate Hills is back in the running to become one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature after contest organizers took it out from the final list of nominees two weeks ago.

Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado said the Chocolate Hills was put back in the list by the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7W), a non-government organization, which launched the search, after he complied with the contest’s final requirement, which was to set up an official support committee for Bohol's natural wonder.
