Exploring Bohol

So we went to NAIA Terminal 3 for our flight, did see Judenites there... it's a newly opened terminal so it's really beautiful and clean and chic and so avant garde-ish. Flew to Bohol w/ Cebu Pacific [cheaper and better!] and arrived, HOT! Then we rode a bus and headed off to the Sanduguan which is where Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Sukatuna* [not sure abt. the sp.] made a pact of some sort. I did learn this but forgot x) Lunch at Loboc River Cruise which I personally dislike. Then to Chocolate Hills, which was burning hot! Then to Tarsier viewing. Quite creepy though, they were really fragile and it is prohibited now to touch them. We headed to Baclayon Church and saw the inside and headed to dinner at Bohol Bee Farm.

A film with no dialogue? And for international release at that -- for free?

Bojol!

Bohol, our tour guide Roel claimed, has become the country’s top tourist destination, overtaking Boracay whose popularity has slipped due to pollution and congestion issues. I can’t verify his claim since the Department of Tourism website doesn’t have the info, but if it’s true, it does make sense. Bohol offers a wide range of activities and points of interest – like Boracay, it also has beautiful beaches, but in addition to that, it also has old churches and watch towers, caves, the famed Loboc river cruise, the flagship species Philippine tarsier, and – what was that – oh – the Chocolate Hills.

Indeed, Bohol has got its tourist sites so down pat that you can hail any taxi driver passing by and he will be able to give you the standard tour.

Tireless in Tagbi

Our plan was to do a Visita Iglesia of at least seven (if not 14) churches in this province dotted with centuries-old of them, but because of the sudden summer rain, Raoul Tidalgo, a few other Boholano friends and I made it to only three.

But we were “tireless in Tagbi” that Maundy Thursday just the same.

We had a quick breakfast at the Bohol Tropics Resort (the only one of its kind in the heart of the city; for inquiries, call 038-411-3510 to 14) where we chanced upon BTR’s Emily Yap with star-guests Melissa Ricks, Kitkat and Joross Gamboa (with his mother Monet, his siblings and Fil-Am girlfriend Katz) who happily announced that he has just wrapped his scenes in Far Away Life, an indie film produced by a foreign company intended for a world premiere at an International Film Festival director Maryo J. delos Reyes and company are putting up in July as part of the TBTK (Tigum Bol-anon Tibuok Kalibutan, a gathering of Boholanos from around the world held every three years). Joross said he plays a Filipino lover looking for his long-lost foreigner girlfriend.

Bohol Blog

Bohol On My Mind blog is where I reminisce and rave about my home province of Bohol. Right now, I am too homesick to do some raving and I am wont to do a lot of reminiscing instead. But I daydream about it a lot rather than blogging about it!

Bohol has been in the Philippine tourism limelight for several years now. In fact, it has been declared as the number one tourist destination in the country. And that honour had brought along with it a lot of local and foreign tourists visiting Bohol.

Easter Trip to Bohol & Camiguin Islands 2009

Our trip started out early Monday morning on April 6 going to the port of Cebu to ride a 2 hour boat ride on a double hull air catamaran boat to Bohol. Since it was a holiday the boat was fully booked with lots of people going home for Easter and lots of Korean tourists going to Bohol for vacation. It had a big screen tv on board and we watched a Korean film with English subtitles. It
was air conditioned and the tickets cost 450 pesos (about $5 dollars)

On this trip we were headed to another island off the coast of Mindanao called Camiguin with lots of natural attractions to see as noted in our travels below. When we arrived in the port of Tagbilaran Bohol we took a small motorcyle sidecar to the bus station and immediately boarded a rusty old bus completely packed and departed for Jagna Bohol which is at the bottom of the Bohol island and the nearest port to Camiguin Island.
