A Weekend in Bohol

My niece Suzette teased me about my blogging only about my foreign travels, never on my local trips. Gave that a thought, and decided I should have really done some. Not so much for myself, but more for those who may wish to check out some of our local sites. Frankly, I enjoyed these trips around our islands just as much as I enjoyed my foreign travels. Perhaps I only felt compelled to write about my travel adventures when they last longer than 4 nights, never for shorter adventures. But I am changing all that now. So here goes...........

I actually meant to bring my other niece Mayette for this trip, but she's busy. So, Suzette got lucky. Started our adventure with a mid-morning flight via Philippine Air Lines from Manila to Tagbilaran, Bohol. An uneventful flight of an hour and a half or so. The small Tagbilaran airport certainly demands improvement since the province attracted more tourists to check out the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, Baclayon Church, a few colonial houses, and the beaches of Panglao. Small and seemingly chaotic, we actually did not have any problem retrieving our bags and driving out of the small airport for our next destination - Panglao Island Nature Hotel.

To Bohol: I shall return!

I have lots of stories to tell. I've been holding it up in the past few days since I got home. If you've read my previous post you knew that I've been to Bohol. Lets get the ball rolling.

My mom fetched me at the airport of Tagbilaran last thursday afternoon, then we went to Ate Rachel's wedding reception at Bohol Tropics. Yup, I'm talking about wedding reception here and just a bit of FYI, Ate Rachel is one of my sister's closest friend. My sister is a part of the entourage that's why we were there. Sightseeing Bohol was just the second part :p. Food was served around 7pm there was some sort of a program. I took some pictures (not good since I am still on the getting to know each other with my camera), got my stomach full with fish fillet, pancit bihon and brazos de mercedes for dessert (yummy) then we went to Ate Sophie's house (a friend of my sister too).

Experience Sweet Serenity at Bohol Bee Farm

On our recent trip to Bohol to accomplish an important family task, we paid a quick visit to Bohol Bee Farm in Dauis, Panglao Island, Bohol. It is a sprawling recreational complex where you could experience countryside living at its finest. It is famous among tourists for its bee products, enchanting surroundings and the scrumptious organic food served in its in-house restaurant. (Organic farming is an agricultural practice being promoted aggressively across Bohol province.)

The future of Bohol's tarsiers, one of Philippines' endangered species

I am always against tarsiers or any animal for that matter, to be caged. Like what I wrote on my sidebar (see right portion), the tarsiers in Bohol, specifically in Loboc areas are stressed to the maximum level due to the influx of tourists day and night. One does not have to be a scientist or an expert to see and conclude that these tarsiers are highly stressed.

One basic example of tolerated neglect that could cause stress among tarsiers is the handler himself. There are signages in those areas in Loboc telling visitors that handling tarsiers or using camera flashes are not allowed.

Mag-Aso Falls in Antequera

Another favorite tourist spot for adventures is the Mag-Aso falls in the municipality of Antequera. It can be reached within 30 minutes from Tagbilaran City. It is about 25 feet tall and situated on anice backdrop of lush greens composed mainly of towering trees. The area where Mag-Aso falls is located The sound of chirping birds, swaying trees, and cascading waters are truly a treat, especially for adventurers who had been used to the metro lifestyle.
